The blacksmith is open

October 12, 2026 mecanica

The blacksmith’s building in town is no longer just a block with a name. Get close and a button appears. Inside, you pick a piece and try to upgrade it, from +0 up to +15.

Why

Every good piece needed somewhere to get better, and the blacksmith’s risk is one of the strongest memories of anyone who played MU Online: the heart racing at +10. We wanted that moment, but without the punishment of losing hours to bad luck early on.

How it works

Up to +6 there’s no risk of losing the piece. From +1 to +3 it always works, and from +4 to +6 the chance drops, but failing only costs the material. From +7 to +9, failing sends the piece back a level. From +10 on, failing can break the piece for good. The Protection Stone, which sometimes drops from the boss chest, prevents the break, but it’s used up on the attempt, whether it works or not.

Each level gives 5% more main attribute. From +10 on the piece glows, and people in town can see it. Upgrading costs gold and materials: Live Ember and Fine Frost from the Den, and Salamander Scale from +7. Failing costs too. Before you press, the screen shows for each piece the chance, the cost and what happens if it goes wrong.

The server checks that you’re really near the blacksmith and does the roll. The client only asks and displays.

Next step

More content to farm the material: new classes and the elements that are still missing.

Changes

  • feat(smith): equipment upgrades +0 to +15 with risk

Smithing rules from data/smithing.json: safe to +6 (fail only costs materials), +7..+9 fail drops one level, +10 and up may break unless a protection stone is used; +5% main stat per level and a glow from +10. Server requires the player to stand by the Ferreiro and rolls the upgrade; client shows chance, cost and failure outcome per piece. Protection stones drop from the boss chest. Protocol 9.
