MushRog

Wednesday and Sunday are horde days

October 12, 2026 designmecanica

We designed MushRog’s community event: exploration rooms that open only on Wednesdays and Sundays, with ten waves of ten elite enemies and a chest ten times bigger for whoever clears everything.

Why

A small game needs a day when everyone is online at the same time. Two fixed days a week give us that. On Wednesday you know there will be a group, a ranking, and someone in chat announcing they cleared all ten waves. The chest stays visible every day with a countdown, so the week revolves around it.

The original idea was all or nothing: only the final chest, only for people who reach the end. We changed it, because dying on wave nine after twenty minutes and leaving with nothing makes players not come back. Now each wave gives a small reward, and the final chest is still the big prize. We also capped it at two chests per opening, per account. Without a cap the event turns into an eight-hour obligation and drains the rest of the week.

How it works

There are ten waves, each in a different layout of the same theme, with two or three elite types mixed together and different auras. The swap rotation changes from wave to wave. Between waves there are twenty seconds of free swapping, with the next wave’s element announced, to give tension, a breather and time to plan.

The event doesn’t spend keys. The final chest holds skill and weapon materials, one guaranteed set piece and a reset seal. The ranking is per opening and resets every time, so a new player can show up at the top. The theme rotates (fire one week, storm the next) and the chest changes with it.

We still don’t have a good name. “Exploration room” says little about what happens inside, and “Raid” is on the table.

Next step

Nothing until phase 2. It stays in the design doc, waiting for combat to get good.

Changes

  • docs: exploration rooms design, devlog workflow

Design doc gains the Wednesday/Sunday horde event with per-wave rewards and a 2-chest cap. Adds devlog/ with format and first entries, a /devlog project skill, CLAUDE.md project rules and a PostToolUse hook that reminds to write a devlog entry after git commits.
